Apple acquires Application Siri for $200 million

Apple acquires Siri , a voice operated personal assistant app for iPhone . It’s been also said that Apple paid Siri a huge amount of over $200 million for the app . Apple has future plans on mobile search and discovery . With the acquisition of Siri Apple has taken a straight aim at Google.

The application developed by Siri takes your requests in form of voice and returns results in form of searches and answers. Like booking movie tickets query will take you to a page where you can book tickets for ongoing shows in nearby area.

But the immediate question folks may be having in their mind is why Apple needs to pay such a huge sum of money to a Free App developer and a app which has just seen a quarter million downloads. The answer to this is Google’s voice search;Apple’s aim of direct competition with Google. The Androids carry a Google voice icon over the top of the Application listings, which directly integrates it with local Google business and other relevant results.

Siri voice Goog voice

Apple has not revealed or made any statement about this, but its clear Apple is coming in Search; voice search basically. At present the best way to use voice search on iPhone is just download a Google voice app or Siri and get started. But Siri isn’t as popular as Google’s apps, neither Apple wants Google’s app to run on its very own iPhone, hence comes Siri .

Applications like  Siri actually define iPhone development. Siri iPhone developers would be having a blast with the truck loads of money which apple dumped at their doorsteps. We are not sure when is the Siri’s voice app expected to be seen in iPhone as a default feature , but yes Apple does sound very serious and with the  iPhone 4.0’s launch this summer we expect Apple to bring in something very new with the device .

Do you feel this is going to affect iPhone application development and iPhone development strategy? And how do you think will this step turn up for iPhone development?
