Apple’s announcement, in San Francisco, to launch an iOS 4.1 upgrade, has brought some fresh air among the iPhone app developers and users who were suffering from several issues for quite some time now.
Rather than being just a simple 0.1 update, this actually brings some pretty useful features with it. The new update is supposed to fix certain problems like:
1.	HDR Photos: This can take three photos; a normal photo, an over exposed and an under exposed one. Then it combines the three of them and gives you the option to pick up the best. This way it will introduce an exposure control which promises a better photography with your iPhone.
2.	HD Video uploading: This one is a little of a no-brainer; in the sense why to provide a device that can film 720p video, but doesn’t allow you to upload it automatically? You can take a breath now, a the new upgrade will rectify it.
3.	Game Center: It’s a social gaming platform which has finally come out of the development age and available into the real world.
The update is also expected to fix some bugs with Bluetooth, the User Interface (UI) and the proximity sensors on the iPhone 3G.
It’s going to be rolled out this week and the users & the iPhone app developers can download it for free via iTunes.

Qualcomm, the giant in the chip making industry, is looking for an “iPhone Developer Guru” for a “secret” project. The chip maker has posted a job with this requirement, and it has fueled up the rumor of having an iPhone 4 CDMA soon. It’s worth a mention that Qualcomm is major chip supplier for CDMA service providers like Verizon.

However iPhone is presently available in US with AT&T, which uses GSM technology. In spite of a huge success with AT&T, Apple is continuously receiving complaints about the network. Probably that has prompted Apple to look for a new carrier partner and technology in terms of Verizon and CDMA respectively. However, iPhone app developers also think it is a move from Apple to reach more Smartphone users.

Now this advertisement from Qualcomm is enough for the iPhone app development industry to speculate more steadily that now iPhone 4 with CDMA is no longer a dream.

The job posted by Qualcomm, says that it is looking for an “iPhone Developer Guru” for a “secret” assignment.

The job description and skill set required is quite similar to that of the exclusive iPhone developer. This suggests that iPhone 4 users are more likely to get a CDMA connection soon.

Google has launched some new features, last week, for its iPhone users. They have added push notifications from the Google account to the iPhone.
The update will now display an icon badge when you get a new e-mail at your Gmail account. One more useful feature ha been added and that is a pop-up alert which will appear on the home screen of your iPhone to remind you about the appointments.

Google has also added some new features to provide the users with predictive results for certain topics. “When looking for flight info, weather, stock quotes, or currency conversion, you’ll see the answers before you even hit ’search,” Google has mentioned in their official blog.

You can get this app from the Apple App Store, if you search for “Google Mobile App.”

They are probably loosing in millions… The trend in iPhone and other iOS app piracy is still on.

More than a year back, Medialets, a market analytics firm focused in to the Smartphone industry, estimated that almost 20% of the apps available in the App Store are pirated. Most of these apps were actually the cracked versions of the paid apps.

The trend is continuing. Dissident, the starter of AppTrackr, the hacked app store has recently estimated that almost 4% of the total iOS devices already in use are using. Most of the Apple devices that use pirated apps are to be the iPhones. Correspondent of the App Advice has recently found out the fact in a chat with them.

It has revealed that Installous, the application which is used to download the cracked or hacked applications, is being used by almost 4 million iPhone users.

The iPhone app developers believes that app piracy is mainly the result of the high cost of the apps. And in most of the cases the users don’t have any option to use a trial version. However Apple is trying a lot to stop the piracy. Recently they have launched a separate section for the free, low end versions of the highly paid apps. But guess that could not stop the piracy yet.

Thery have released the edition of iOS 4 for iPhone 3G already, but some of the features off the operating system are not functioning. Apple has admitted that the iPhone 3G model is not able to support some of the features of the latest operating system.

The company has released some updates for the model recently. But those patches have disappointed the users and the iPhone developers as they have been proved inefficient to fix the problems. The users have experienced a slow & limited performance of the iPhone 3G after installing the crippled version of the operating system on their devices.
Steve Jobs has admitted the complaints about the performance of iPhone 3G with iOS 4 and has announced that an update is coming soon, in response to an user’s E-mail.

A new update from Apple for iOS 4.0.2 has been released and this is supposed to be compatible to the lower versions of iOS. In the recent past, iPhone app developers have faced an array of the problems to run iOS 4.0.2 in iPhone 3G and 3GS. However similar problems have disturbed the development for 2nd and 3rd generations of iPod Touch with iOS 4.

In addition the update is expected to fix the security vulnerability related to viewing malicious PDF files. It is also expected to fix the iproximity sensor glitch that many users have faced and are waiting for. Now even the iPhone app developers can develop iOS 4 apps keeping iPod and and iPhone 3G in their mind.

From the users’ point of view we see that the iPhone users who has already upgraded the OS need not regret any more

Line 6 has invited iPhone app developers to develop apps for MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) Mobilizer, which is the only MIDI interface available for Apple iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, according to them.

Marcus Ryle, Senior Vice President of New Business Development at Line 6, has recently said, “With Apple’s new iOS 4 it is now possible for any developer to create MIDI-enabled applications that work with MIDI Mobilizer. As an open invitation to developers, we are now providing the SDK at no charge, and are not charging any license fee or royalty.”

MIDI Mobilizer is a small hardware device which fits into the standard 30-pin connector of the Apple devices, like – iPhone, iPod touch & iPad. The device can connect your Apple products to millions of classic and modern MIDI gears, e.g. digital pianos, synthesizers, effects processors etc. The list can also include virtually any device that has a standard MIDI 5-pin DIN connectors. For example you can say, Line 6 guitar amps and POD products.

Line 6 also provides a free MIDI Mobilizer SDK. The benefit of this is future applications will also be supported.
The trend in third party iPhone application development for MIDI Mobilizer has raised the standard to a new height. Now you have MIDI Live, which provides the playback & real-time modification option for any Standard MIDI File song. There is MIDI Surface, that can transform an iPhone, iPod touch or even an iPad into a all-purpose MIDI controller. MIDI Memo Recorder is also available. It offers the MIDI musicians with a bunch of solutions relating performance, recording and data backup. The list goes on and on. All these apps are well available in the App Store.

You can request for the free SDK (Software Development Kit) from Line 6 sending a mail to MMdeveloper@line6.com.

About two weeks ago, iPhone application developers TapTapTap pushed an update for their Camera+ photography app to the App Store, and all seemed well. But recently , they revealed in a tweet that this latest build had a hidden feature: by visiting the URL camplus://enablevolumesnap in Mobile Safari, one could make the volume buttons on the side of the iPhone instead act as a camera shutter button — something which Apple was always against and the message was pulled out withing 30 minutes .

Apple doesn’t like hidden features bypass its terms and such Apps dont stay in air for long , the Camera+ app has been pulled from the App Store.

We were able to get the App’s product page to come up once, but attempting to purchase it spit back the standard “The item you tried to buy is no longer available” error that shows whenever anyone’s wrists are being slapped.

TapTapTap is well know iPhone development team and Camera+ was even featured as ‘App of the week ‘ a while back . Such tricks have earned many iPhone developers a year-long ban from the app store , lets see if TapTapTap’s positive history and contribution to App store keeps them safe on App store .

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is going to investigate into Apple’s iOS SDK rules. Recently the FTC has received a complaint, along with a documentation of nearly 200 pages, from Adobe against Apple for banning the iPhone app developers from using the authoring tools of Adobe. Adobe says it is against the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

However the officials of FTC exempted the Adobe’s 189-page documentation from the openness demand by Wired as the publication of the same could “reasonably be expected to interfere” with other ongoing cases. FTC neither directly acknowledged the case nor provided the details.

Apple claimed that they don’t want any dependence on outside tools and that’s why Adobe’s tools are not accepted. Apple also believes that such outsider’s tools may lead to developers waiting for a third-party’s updates irrespective of how much Apple develops the platform on their own. Apple has also pointed out earlier that Adobe’s dependency on third-party tools, not only delayed the arrival of Creative Suite for Intel but moved it to just produce a Cocoa-based code with CS5 only.

Adobe, on the other hand, has alleged that Apple’s SDK rules have made cross-platform development only more difficult. iPhone developers can’t create an app using Flash CS5 and have to wait for the iOS devices to reach, which leads in to spending extra money and time on separate development tools. They have referred the case of Wired. Wired had to use a workaround to launch its iPad magazine, after Adobe’s tools for tablet magazine were declined by the sudden change in iOS SDK.

The growing economy of China is always a lucrative market for the service providers and manufacturers around the world. No wonder that Apple is not an exception!!!

Apple, keeping the increasing demand in mind, is going to launch iPhone 3 GS with Wi-Fi enability today in the Chinese market. In addition, people who are interested in a 16 or 32 GB model, can also get it, but they will be available without Wi-Fi capability.

China Unicom, the Chinese telecom giant, has announced on Friday that 8GB iPhone 3GS with Wi-Fi will now be available in the country.

The Chinese government had banned the IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi standard, prior to the official launch of iPhone in China, on the ground of WAPI standard. Later on, the government has backed off from its strategy and Apple has launched “China-specific” iPhone. But Apple’s China-specific product could not win the customers faith, mainly because of its cost. The new Wi-Fi enabled iPhone 3GS is expected to increase iPhone sales & iPhone app development in China as the device will be available at no increased price.

The Wi-Fi equipped iPhone will cost 4,999 yuan (US$ 738.01), the same price the model without Wi-Fi costs. Moreover, if the users choose a monthly subscription of minimum 226 yuan (US$ 33.36) they may get the handset for free.

Time would say whether this offer can give Apple an edge in the Chinese market, however the iPhone app developers can definitely start thinking about some China-specific apps.
