As noted on our sister site AppShopper recently, Nike has released a new Nike+ GPS application into the App Store, offering iPhone users new tools for tracking their running performance.

While the Nike+ system built into the iPhone and other devices has required that users purchase a separate sensor to be attached to the user’s shoe for tracking, the new application takes advantage of the GPS capability and accelerometer built into the iPhone to provide map-based tracking, as well as pace, and distance traveled. The app also supports challenges, voice feedback, and ‘PowerSong’ integration to help runners push themselves even further.

Nike+ GPS, which is priced at $1.99, is compatible with the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, as well as the second-, third-, and fourth-generation iPod touch, although without the mapping capabilities that require GPS functionality.

An awesome app for fitness freaks , somewhat like what we have already seen in the app store but ofcourse its Nike’s official app so who knows next time you buy a new pair of shoes and you get some discounts or get shoes embedded with sensors which can directly pair up with your iPhone to let you know , how far did you walk in the whole day . Sounds great !

Nike – ‘Just Did it ‘! with its iPhone development team .

While Microsoft is trying to save face with their upcoming launch of Kinect, and how it relates to hardcore gamers out there, Apple is apparently vying to make their name known amidst the crowd. Sure, their titles are far more “mobile” than, say, Microsoft’s, but that doesn’t make the gamers any less hardcore. Today, Apple officially unveiled their new “Hardcore Games” section within App Store Essentials. And, as you can tell from the picture above, it’s pretty hardcore.

Titles you’ll find in there range, but you should find some familiar ones like Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Chaos Rings, and Archetype. The prices don’t seem to have changed much, though. Any hardcore gamers out there feel like this section was absolutely needed to get your favorite games their own showcase area?

And even the iPhone app developers are focusing to keep the prices as low as possible on the App Store encouraging gamers to buy more games from there . While we have also seen in the past that the price factor has also played a major role in the gaming industry lets hope we get to see the same spirit with the Microsoft guys .

A recent study by Quantcast, the prestigious market research firm, has shown that Google’s Android is growing fast in the Smartphone industry. But the market is still dominated by the iPhone from Apple.

The operating system from Google is growing their market share, with the Android-based smartphones are now acquiring a total of the 25% of U.S. mobile internet traffic, well ahead of the BlackBerry traffic.

Apple is still the dominant player with the iOS accounting for around 56% of U.S. web traffic. However it’s a loss of 12% of the total market share for Apple who used to attarct 68% of the U.S. mobile internet traffic 1 year back in September, 2009. At the same time Android has shown a fantastic growth in their market share. Android has registered a growth of more than 300% from its market share of 8% in September, 2009 when they used to enjoy only 8% of the U.S. mobile web traffic.

Research In Motion’s share of the Smartphone market in U.S. has remained relatively flat at a 9%, as BlackBerry devices have continued to dominate the enterprise market. However BlackBerry has failed to catch on the greater population of the Smartphone users.

Apple’s Ping, the new social networking tool for music in iTunes, has opened a new opportunity for the spammers!!! Ping has been launched last Wednesday only, and it is hardly a week old. But Spammers are prompt enough to use the platform.

The users have already been flooded with the spams offering some free iPhone or online survey scams. However Ping is a social network introduced by Apple in iTunes where you can build up your network to share musical tracks, discuss and comment on the tracks shared among the network. You can also suggest the tunes to your friends.

Ping has been reported to be well accepted by the users in iTunes immediately and spammers has not wasted time to take the full advantage.

Survey scams are already endemic on Facebook over the last few months. The absence of filtering on Ping has given the spammers a new & friendly platform. Sophos, a net security firm, has warned of a potential net security risk which may be resulted due to this lack of monitoring in Ping.

Chester Wisniewski of Sophos has written, “Most of the security industry has been pointing out the migration of spam from an email-only venture to blog/forum comments, Facebook, Twitter and other Web 2.0 platforms.” “But apparently Apple didn’t consider this when designing Ping, as the service implements no spam or URL filtering. It is no big shock that less than 24 hours after launch, Ping is drowning in scams and spams,” he adds.

Apple has anticipated a certain level of mischief, which is reflected from the approval process of uploaded profile pictures. It filters inappropriate photos, but can’t stop the spamming. However the iPhone developers are hopeful to have a better and strict monitoring to stop malicious contents. Till then we can only suggest the users to be cautious in opening messages from unknown users, especially about the suspiciously generous deals & offers.

- Maps: iOS 4.1 Wins (By a Lot)
- Photos: iOS 4.1 Wins (Just Barely)
- Safari: iOS 4.1 Wins (Just Barely)

While the speed advantages ranged from marginal to significant, iOS 4.1 clearly outperformed iOS 4.0. It’s still significantly slower performance than you’ll get from a 3GS or iPhone 4, and we’re still not sure it’s a big enough improvement that 3G owners will want to ditch iOS 3. The most obvious difference was UI responsiveness. The UI didn’t get stuck nearly as much on an interface element or when trying to enter text. If you are set on using iOS 4, the upgrade is worthwhile for that alone.

In late July, Apple acknowledged that it was looking into reports of performance problems for the iPhone 3G under iOS 4.0, and Apple CEO Steve Jobs confirmed late last month in an email to a customer that a software update addressing the issuing was forthcoming.

At last week’s media event, Jobs announced the release of iOS 4.1 set for this week, noting the iPhone 3G performance issue as one of the bugs addressed in the update.

Have users and iPhone developers felt the same difference ? How far does the performance of your iPhone 3G go down with the respective OS’s ?

Apple’s announcement, in San Francisco, to launch an iOS 4.1 upgrade, has brought some fresh air among the iPhone app developers and users who were suffering from several issues for quite some time now.
Rather than being just a simple 0.1 update, this actually brings some pretty useful features with it. The new update is supposed to fix certain problems like:
1.	HDR Photos: This can take three photos; a normal photo, an over exposed and an under exposed one. Then it combines the three of them and gives you the option to pick up the best. This way it will introduce an exposure control which promises a better photography with your iPhone.
2.	HD Video uploading: This one is a little of a no-brainer; in the sense why to provide a device that can film 720p video, but doesn’t allow you to upload it automatically? You can take a breath now, a the new upgrade will rectify it.
3.	Game Center: It’s a social gaming platform which has finally come out of the development age and available into the real world.
The update is also expected to fix some bugs with Bluetooth, the User Interface (UI) and the proximity sensors on the iPhone 3G.
It’s going to be rolled out this week and the users & the iPhone app developers can download it for free via iTunes.

Intel recently confirmed long-standing rumors by announcing that it will acquire the Wireless Solutions (WLS) unit of German firm Infineon for $1.4 billion. The move gives Intel a significant expansion into the market for smartphone chips as it continues to try to build interest in its own Atom platform for mobile and netbook devices.

Through this effort, Intel will pair WLS’ best-in-class cellular technology with its core strengths to enable the delivery of low-power, Intel-based platforms that combine its applications processor with an expanded portfolio of wireless options — bringing together Intel’s leadership in Wi-Fi and WiMAX with WLS’ leadership in 2G and 3G, and a combined path to accelerate 4G LTE.

The acquisition is notable for Apple, as the company has long eschewed Intel’s offerings for its mobile devices in favor of ARM-based technology. Infineon’s wireless unit has, however, supplied the baseband controller for supporting cellular connectivity in every generation of the iPhone.

While Intel and Apple have been key partners on the Mac platform since Apple began moving away from the PowerPC platform with the release of the Mac Pro in 2006, the two companies have not seen fit to work together on the mobile side of things. Intel has in the past been critical of the iPhone’s use of ARM-based processor technology, claiming that any device seeking to access the “full Internet” needs to be based on Intel’s technology.

CanalMX reports on comments from an executive at Mexican carrier Telcel claiming that Apple is set to release a revised version of the iPhone 4 by the end of September to address the highly-publicized antenna issue. Telcel began offering the iPhone 4 in Mexico last Friday as part of a quiet expansion that saw the device also come to the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia.

According to Marco Quatorze, Telcel’s Director of Value Added Services, the iPhone 4 sold in Mexico will initially be the same hardware as that sold in the U.S. and elsewhere, with Apple offering a free case to address potential issues with antenna performance. But he also noted that as of September 30th, when the free case program expires, revised hardware without the reception issues will become available.

The veracity of Quatorze’s claim is unknown, as it is unclear whether a carrier executive at his level would even be privy to such information, and it is possible that he may simply be mistaken in his understanding of Apple’s September 30th expiration date for the free case program. At Apple’s iPhone 4 press conference last month, Steve Jobs noted that the free case program was launched with an initial expiration date of September 30th to provide the company with time to continue its investigation of the antenna issue and perhaps come up with a better solution for future customers.
